For its first move into the Charleston area, Ashley Turner Building Co. made sure that prospective buyers can pick a home and move right in.
There are not so many options in the houses at the new Carriage Run neighborhood, but plenty of interesting standard features such as tray ceilings, granite countertops, gas log fireplaces and rope lighting in the master bedrooms.
"You get what you see in this house," said xxxx, agent for xxxx, which is handling sales and marketing.
The neighborhood, which will have 65 homes, is within the 500-acre Spring Grove Plantation planned community off Cypress Gardens Road in Berkeley County. It is three miles from Cypress Gardens and less than five miles from Goose Creek.
Vinyl-sided homes are from 1,900 to 2,600 square feet, and are priced from $184,900 to $300,000. There are six floor plans: the St. Thomas, Key Largo, St. Marten, Key West, St. Croix and St. Croix II. The plans have some flexibility. For instance, the St. Croix model has an optional 117-square-foot sitting room. Most of the models are two-story, but there are ranch-style homes, too. Buyers can have the master bedroom upstairs or down, depending on the floor plan.
Another attraction of the Carriage Run homes is they are on large lots, as much as a third of an acre. Some of the backyards have stone terraces because they slope down to surrounding wetlands. Large oak trees also dot the property.
Based in the Raleigh suburb of Garner, N.C., Ashley Turner has built homes in the Myrtle Beach area and Hilton Head Island.
Other features include bay windows, two-car attached garages, crown molding, drop ceilings with recessed lighting over kitchen islands, stainless steel sinks and upstairs bonus rooms in many of the models.
Even though the community is in the country in unincorporated Berkeley County, cable television and high-speed Internet are both available.
Outside, there are no false dormers or shutters; they are all usable. The yards are sodded front and back. Screened porches are one of the available extras.
The development is in the early stages of sales and construction. West said the mid-priced homes are popular with families, seniors including retirees and "empty nesters" - older couples whose children have gone to college or otherwise left home.
Neighborhood residents can take advantage of the planned amenities at Spring Grove Plantation, which include a swimming pool, clubhouse and playgrounds. West said the attractions could be completed as early as mid-2006.
Ashley Turner is one of three regional builders in Spring Grove Plantation. The others are Pendley and Jessco. Plans call for 1,100 to 1,200 homes to be constructed eventually in the planned development.
